There’s no question that the holidays are a huge source of stress, and if you’re married or in a serious relationship, there are guaranteed to be arguments about one thing or another. Traditions

If you are in a new relationship, then there is a good chance that you and your partner will argue over your traditions. Each family has their own holiday traditions, and being a part of someone else’s can feel a little strange. For example, you and your family may decorate a Christmas tree while enjoying a certain holiday movie. However, your partner or spouse may be used to decorating the tree while singing Christmas carols. If you and your partner practice different religions, it may make your traditions even more unique. Instead of arguing about how each of you celebrates the holidays, try to find ways to compromise and combine your traditions, or you can even create new traditions as a couple!

Gift Giving

Many people choose to celebrate the holidays by spending time with those that they love. However, it is also a time in which people exchange gifts to show how much they care for the other person. As you can imagine, this can cause a lot of tension between partners, especially if one spouse makes more money than the other. If one partner gets the other multiple gifts, while the other only gives one, it could lead to an argument about how much you love each other, or how much you’re willing or not willing to spend. With that in mind, if you’re worried about an inevitable argument about gift-giving this holiday season, take the initiative to sit down with your partner and clearly lay out some ground rules for gifts this year.

Whose Family You’re Staying With

It’s common for couples to visit family during the holidays, but if you and your partner have family in two different places, it can cause some tension if you’re unclear about whose family you plan to visit. Most couples will come up with a compromise of spending one holiday with one family and the next holiday with the other, giving you equal time with both. However, if one partner doesn’t get along with the other partner’s family, it can easily cause problems. Instead of fighting about which family you will visit during the holidays, try to come up with a compromise that allows you to see both.
