CHOOSING A THERAPIST WHO’S RIGHT FOR YOU

It’s strongly recommended that before deciding upon a specific therapist, you shop around, arranging for 2-3 sessions with different counselors before making up your mind.  In doing this, you can see the different approaches, and you can decide who makes you most comfortable.   You can also discuss some of your goals for treatment, and get a sense of whether the therapist has something useful to offer you—individually, or together with your partner.  Sometimes it takes more than one session to decide.

These initial visits are typically called consultations.  Most good therapists will be happy to arrange for a consultation, since they understand that the process of choosing a therapist is complicated.  Here, at Long Island Counseling, consultations are encouraged and every effort is made to offer you convenience in setting up an initial consultation.
